No word yet about whether or not I should send in my medical packet minus 1 shot. I guess I just keep on waiting.

Dental Clearance
I got Dental Clearance today! Hooray!!! I was staring to get worried that they never even received my packet because it has been like 2 weeks since I sent it, and I never got confirmation that it arrived....but all of the sudden my toolkit was updated today to say I am cleared :-)
I still have not mailed my medical packet yet. I finally found a clinic to get my Polio and Varicella shots for pretty cheap...will come to a total of $55 for the 3 shots (compared to the $180 it would have been at the Health Department). I got the Polio and the 1st Varicella on April 15th, but unfortunately have to wait 8 weeks to get the 2nd Varicella dose :-( I e-mailed my Peace Corps nurse today to see if I can send in my medical packet now, and just send in that last immunization record later....I don't want to wait 2 more months to send in the packet just because of one shot.
I just finished a great Spring Break (from Elementary School). I had an awesome week with my sister, nephew, and my grandma, aunt, uncle, and 2 cousins from New York :-) Made a few trips to the beach, the pool, and other fun places.

Dental Mailed, Spider Bites, Autism Awareness, etc.
I mailed in my dental stuff today. It has been done and sitting on my desk for a couple weeks now, because I was just going to wait and send it all together with the medical. But, I'm still going to have to wait a bit for the medical, so I decided to just go ahead and stick the dental packet in the mail now.
On medical, I'm still waiting on my counseling history forms from UF, a polio shot, and apparently a chicken pox shot (even though I had chicken pox when I was little, my blood work came back saying I don't have any immunities to it). Unfortunately my doctor's office doesn't have these immunizations in stock, and I have to go to the health department and pay $35 each for them...and I'm waiting until spring break to do it so I can get there and get in line early enough to get in.
In the mean time, I got a spider bite almost two weeks ago, and I have this about 3 inch (in diameter) infected area on my arm that is just now starting to show some signs of getting better. It's pretty gross...
In other news....April is Autism Awareness Month; and tomorrow, April 2nd is World Autism Day- wear the color BLUE to show your support! Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that is characterized by problems in three areas: social development, communication and stereotypic behaviors. Autism is a "spectrum disorder" that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. 1 in 91 children in the United States is diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. There is no known single cause or cure for Autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families today.

Moving Right Along...
I went back to the doctor on Friday to get the PPD results checked and also to get the blood tests done. Oh, and he ended up doing that not so fun #13 on the physical. It actually wasn't all that bad though :-)
So, all that I have to wait on now is the results of the lab tests (should be by Wednesday of this week) and the specialist reports from UF (those might prove to be kinda tricky and more time-consuming). And I need to find time to go down to the Health Department to get a Polio booster.
I'm trying to not totally get my hopes up, because it is so way early in the process....but from what I can tell, Lesotho is the only SSA country with a Primary Ed program and a departure date in November.... and Lesotho happens to be the first country I told my recruiter that I was interested in.....

Correction!
Talked to my Regional Office today....turns out my estimated departure date is not February 2011.... so here's my corrected nomination info:

I'm very excited about this change in the date :-) Makes some decision making about teaching next year a lot easier for me! Looks like I should not start the next year teaching....instead I'm thinking I might just substitute teach for those couple months until November....that will be more flexible and less stressful anyways!
Also they said there is some possibility I could get placed with Special Ed., just all depends on what is needed and such later at the time of my placement....but at least I know it is not totally out of the question :-)
